Finally! The spring semester has come to a close, in what I believe is another 4.0 (to the best of my knowledge and spreadsheet anal retentiveness) semester. I did o.k. on the final for my Human Sexuality course (for my minor in Health Promotion) with an 88, although I remain slightly miffed at selecting the wrong answer for something I read incorrectly! Anyway, I am confident that I have succeeded at obtaining an "A" in my Fitness Leadership class (last required course for my Exercise Science Major)...
The one disappointing thing about this evening was that I wolfed down my dinner (crab alfredo pasta, yes not low fat but seriously, I had a healthy choice steamer for lunch!) before my exam at 7pm because I thought it would take me the entire hour to complete. Instead, I had a lump of pasta sitting in my stomach to take a final which I completed in 22 minutes and 12 seconds. The disappointing part of this, it was so beautiful out and I could have had a wonderful run (since the baby was rocked out) and probably managed a killer time! Instead, I live in fear of what alfredo pasta (with crab no less) might do to my GI tract had I been daring enough to take it to the road (any fan of The Office remembers Michael's sad reaction to eating alfredo pasta before the 5k)... a risk I was not willing to take!
So instead of risking it all, I decided the best way to spend my quiet evening (remember the baby is rocked out), finishing another semester of the degree that never ends, would be to concoct one of my infamous cosmopolitans, served in my Costco find, Mikasa martini glasses, and enjoy it on the back patio with my ever supportive husband.
Now it's a little after 9pm, the baby appears to be stirring and I am feeling quite relaxed... I guess I have a new challenge, besides getting into a size "I" pants(see My Body Alphabet) and that is to rebuild that tolerance I once had... of course that took be the better part of 15 years, so I have work to do!!!
Well I hear the little one calling... Time to sign off! Congratulations to all my friends, ok truth be told, my only friend in college, Heather on graduation! Wait! What the heck am I supposed to do next year without you??? I still have another semester of minor course work and an internship!

My Body Alphabet
So yesterday I had one of those happy moments, standing in my closet peering at the stacks of pants on that top shelf (you know that stack, the 'is it gonna fit' stack). See, it's dangerous territory - that stack, because if I try to get my butt into a pair of pants, there are only 2 ways it can work. One way, I end up in tears because for some reason the button doesn't want to meet the hole... or two, everything closes and I rejoice in slimming down another size... fortunately for me, I actually got into my size "L" - down from my size "M" pants... I know you are thinking Medium and Large but actually I have this whole other system...lol
Anyone who has ever been at their "Ideal" size knows that you will typically waiver from time to time... even at my "I" size, I had some "H" pants and some "J" pants... confused? Ok, here it is... my ideal is not your ideal. If I said, "Oh god I feel so huge, I have to wear my size 8's today because I am PMSing" you might think - "yeah you're such a heifer - I haven't been an 8 since the 6th grade!" - So last night, not sure why, but I have derived this lettering system for my sizes... because at the end of the day, its not the number on the tag but the feeling you have when you are in your pants...
Here it is, and some people may think this is stupid, but hey it works for me and if it doesn't work for you - then don't use it...lol
First, I identify my Ideal size, that is my size "I". Then I have this list:
G = Gauntly Ill (like when I had depression or that appendectomy and couldn't have solids for a week)
H = Hello ~ baby is losing her back here!
I = Ideal, I wear it like a diva!
J = Just a little further...
K = Keep going, you're getting closer
L = Lets see, yup its working!
M = My, I have some work to do...
Granted, my size M was and is related to the precious 5 month old that seems to still want to wake up at 230am to say hello and relieve the pressure building in my bosom... but we have all (or at least some of us) at one point or another and for various reasons, gotten to a place where we don't feel comfortable in our own skin. We know when we have to do some work, and would walk around stuffed in our undersized bottoms before we'd be damned to buy another size up!
So now I am rocking my size L's, knowing that all this running I am back to doing, is making a difference... and what does that mean? It means that I am even more motivated to get out and log more miles!!! Of course tonight I have a final at 7pm, so I would either have to squeeze it in before then (which probably won't happen because I wouldn't get home until 530pm and need to study more!) or I'll be the crazy nocturnal runner at 8pm (which isn't out of the question, it would just depend on where we are at in the nightly routine with the angel)...
You might consider it trickery or tomfoolery... I think of it as viewing your body as your own, and not being defined by a number! We are all different, we should begin to embrace what is healthy and beautiful about ourselves, not how many pounds we need to shed or what size we wore in high school... lets face it, my butt never carried the 'skinny' jean and never will...and in a dream world, my thighs would never rub together!
At the end of the day, well actually in the beginning of the day, my goal isn't really a number, it's a feeling... I want to put on a pair of pants and feel like a sexy mama!

And another weekend comes to an end...
Although my weekend started off a little rough (with my less than stellar run), Stephen & I managed to get a bunch of things done around the house (Not to mention some help from Cody & Juice). It's always a nice feeling to get things accomplished, especially when you have been saying, 'We need to get the patio cleaned', or 'We need to apply the weed and feed', or 'We need to get the grill out of the garage'... So Saturday instead of going on that run I thought I might go on... We cleaned the patio, got the old grill to the dump, the new grill out of the garage, the yard got its weed & feed... bonus is we got an outdoor rug & bistro table from Stephens parents (I love hand me downs!) I even hooked up an old radio in the patio and found some candles for the chiminea! By Saturday evening we were grilling out, chilling out and enjoying the sunset on the patio...life is good when we can sit back and enjoy the little things :)
Sunday, I didn't even leave the house! Well that's a lie, I did put air in my bike tires - FINALLY! After that I was so inspired, I actually took it out for a spin, just a few miles, but it was nice! I did come to the realization that if this triathlon in September is going to happen, I need to get my butt pedaling, and swimming while I'm at it (obviously not at the same time, but if I could I would - a multi-tasking challenge!)... thank goodness, I got the running part under control, I think...lol
So now its 9pm on Sunday night, the baby is down for the night, the
teen has come in and said good night (and gave us our hug & kiss & said he loves us - not sure if he will think it's not cool I shared that but I am thankful he still does it!) - I am tired, and another work week is abound... This week marks the end of another semester... I never did get to that extra credit assignment that was due by 5pm on Saturday (I am so hoping I won't need it!) but I can't focus on what I wanted to do but enjoy what I needed, and that was to spend time with my family... Wednesday night at 7pm, I will begin my last final, and by 8pm, I will breath a sigh of relief... no matter how I do, I will be done! It's bittersweet, if I hadn't picked up this minor in Health Promotion, I would have been graduating this coming weekend (with my friend and fellow Exercise Science Nerd Heather)... I guess in the end I focus on the bright side, I get another year of not paying back those student loans!!!
I am so looking forward to having a free mind to focus on taking some certification exams and also training for the triathlon & all these 1/2's I am planning on doing! I guess I will always be busy doing something...lol
